Jordan cross border in Islamic State hands

ISIS now called Islamic State controlled the border post with Jordan and I think the Iraqi Side near Syria too http://www.washingtonpost.com/world/middle_east/insurgents-in-iraq-seize-main-border-crossing-with-jordan-as-kerry-arrives-for-talks/2014/06/23/a85a0860-fac8-11e3-8176-f2c941cf35f1_story.html

Another Update

News reports recently said that ISIL expelled Christians from the Mar Brenham Monastery, this should indicate that they now control Al-Khidhir which is where the monastery is located.

Changing colors in second map for red-green colorblind users

In the second map ("Map: Current Military Situation"), the colors used for ISIS and Iraq are virtually indistinguishable to me and (presumably) many others with red-green colorblindness. I have to look very closely to find the borders between the two. At a glance, the map makes it look to me like all of Iraq is held by the same ISIS.

For greater legibility, I would recommend making whichever one of the two is green significantly bluer, as is done in many traffic lights.

Since I don't know anything about editing Wikipedia, and since I fear messing things up, I leave the decision for this change to other users' discretion.

I'll ping the Spesh531ial one to try to raise the issue. Gregkaye 20:11, 16 October 2014 (UTC)

Map Deletions

158.222.143.13 started a discussion after failing to convince users on a related map https://en.wikipedia.orghttps://wikines.com/en/Wikipedia:No_original_research/Noticeboard#Maps_if_ISIL without alterting any related talk page (this one, ISIL and Onefireuser started deleting the maps from the ISIL article. I'm opposed to these actions as they do not help the reader. See . "Roggio of The Long War Journal, which is also tracking the spread of ISIS, writes in an email that ISIS influence can be felt even in these deserts, however. "Iraqis in the small hamlets and villages not directly under Islamic State control know who are truly in control," he says. "Think of it like this: Americans living in the remotest areas of Alaska often see little to no government involvement, but ultimately they know the U.S. government can assert itself if it needed to." Twitter

Why has the map been changed and had "@ only is maps" twitter account added to it? This is not okay and should be deleted, all of the tags should also be deleted, the font is terrible. Tyrroi (talk) 23:02, 4 December 2014 (UTC)

Lebanon

Perhaps the situation in Lebanon should also be included in the map, because it seems that ISIL has spread there too.

See "Jihadi militants in Lebanon establishing ‘Islamic State of Qalamoun’ near Ersal". 109.60.125.172 (talk) 16:19, 11 January 2015 (UTC)

If you can make reliable and usable, then I may add Lebanon in this map. Banak (talk) 16:07, 1 March 2015 (UTC)

Golan Heights

Why are the Golan Heights not shown in the colors used for the rest of Syria? ♆ CUSH ♆

The Israeli occupied part of Syria is not part of de facto Syria, and is not part of the war. Per a RFC in the past we adopted the current situation of colouring it grey. Banak (talk) 15:50, 7 March 2015 (UTC)
That is outrageous. ♆ CUSH ♆ 03:22, 8 March 2015 (UTC)
Sounds pretty reasonable to me Jurryaany (talk) 15:50, 8 March 2015 (UTC)
Sounds pretty politically motivated to me ♆ CUSH ♆ 18:53, 8 March 2015 (UTC)
It was decided by a RFC, unless you believe someone rigged this then there isn't much unreasonable about this. Jurryaany (talk) 16:14, 9 March 2015 (UTC)

Update
